How To Use Peel and Stick Wallpaper

Back in February, our marketing team hosted an event at Katie's house, and to prepare, we went over the day before and helped finish up a couple of projects, one of them being to hang our Peel and Stick wallpaper in her dining room. My mind was blown as I watched Katie effortlessly stick wallpaper to her walls, peel it off to realign it, and restick the wallpaper to the wall with just as much ease as the first time. "It's actually that easy?!" I remember exclaiming out loud.

I recently used our Peel and Stick wallpaper in my mudroom and can confirm—it truly is that easy! If you’re aiming for a flawless wallpaper experience, here are a few extra tips. But honestly, I skipped most of these, and it still looks great.

CLEAN

Before applying peel and stick wallpaper, ensure that the wall surface is clean and smooth. Use a damp cloth or sponge to remove any dust, dirt, or grease. If there are stubborn stains, you may need to use a mild detergent solution to clean the surface. Make sure the wall is completely dry before proceeding. You may want to do this a day or two before applying the wallpaper.

REPAIR

Inspect the wall for any imperfections such as cracks, holes, or uneven surfaces. Fill in any holes or cracks with spackle or joint compound, and sand them down until they are smooth. If the wall has a textured surface, you may need to apply a primer to create a smoother surface for the wallpaper to adhere to.

PRIME

For particularly smooth walls or new construction, you can prime your walls before hanging the wallpaper for best results. Use a white primer like Roman PRO-977 ULTRA-PRIME® or similar. For painted drywall, use Roman PRO-909 VINYL PREP® or similar. For an extra secure stick, you can use a wallpaper adhesive at the very top of the roll to keep the paper secure.
